Environments with high temperatures and humidity can result in heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. However, these heat-related illnesses are preventable.
If you’re exposed to hot temperatures (either outdoors or indoors), you can prevent heat-related emergencies with three simple actions early on:
- Water
- Rest
- Shade
Additional protective measures include wearing sunscreen and appropriate clothing, staying in air-conditioned environments, strategically scheduling outdoor activities and rotating work tasks to minimize heat exposure.
Check out the HSI Emergency Care blog for more information about preventing heat-related illnesses.
