Venomous and nonvenomous snakebites can be painful. But venomous snakebites can cause severe injuries and sometimes death. So, it’s important to treat all unknown snakes as venomous until proven otherwise.
If you suspect a venomous snakebite:
- Call 911 immediately.
- Keep the person calm and still, with the bite area lower than the heart.
- Wash the wound with soap and water.
- Remove jewelry.
