The great outdoors can present countless challenges and special emergency situations that you wouldn’t otherwise encounter in your everyday life. If you’re headed to a remote setting, be sure to adequately stock your wilderness first aid kit with:
- First aid supplies (e.g. dressing, bandages, non-latex disposable gloves, etc.)
- Medications (e.g. aspirin, antihistamines, etc.)
- Items to protect you from the elements (e.g. emergency blanket, sunscreen, etc.)
Your wilderness first aid kit should have enough supplies for each member of your group. And it should be tailored for each trip’s unique situation, such as environmental conditions, length of your trip and any personal needs.
Check out the HSI Emergency Care blog for a detailed list of supplies, along with some dos and don’ts for packing your wilderness first aid kit.
