More than 100 people are killed in motor vehicle crashes every day in the U.S. And with more people on the road during the holidays, it’s important drivers and passengers do their part to ensure everyone stays safe on the road.
Here are some cold weather driving tips from the AAA Exchange and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Keep cold-weather gear in your car (e.g. extra food and water, warm clothing, etc.)
- Check weather conditions for your driving route before leaving.
- Remove bulky coats before placing children underneath a car seat harness. Bulky clothing makes it difficult to tighten a car seat harness properly. And a loose harness can lead to serious injuries or ejection from the seat during a crash.
- If you get stuck in the snow, stay with your vehicle. Your vehicle provides temporary shelter and makes it easier for rescuers to locate you.
