National CPR and AED Awareness Week is upon us! Congress unanimously passed a resolution in December 2007 to designate June 1-7 each year as CPR and AED Awareness Week. Since then, organizations and Instructors have joined together each year across the country to promote the importance of CPR and AED training in our workplaces and communities.
Everyone Can Make a Difference in an Emergency
We want everyone to know the basics of compression-only CPR. That’s right! You can save a life even if you haven’t taken a class!

Step 1: Call 911
Step 1: Call 911
Check the victim for response and yell for help. Direct a bystander to call 911 and get the AED. If you are alone, call 911 and get the AED yourself.
Step 2: Push Hard and Fast
Step 2: Push Hard and Fast
Place 2 hands in the center of the chest between the nipples. Position your shoulders directly over your hands and keep your arms straight.
Push hard straight down. Research has shown that most people don’t push hard enough, so your goal should always be: PUSH HARD and PUSH FAST.
We highly encourage you to become certified in CPR and AED to learn additional life-saving skills. After all, the life you save could be the life of someone you love.
Celebrate CPR and AED Saves
Lives are saved by bystanders and workplace responders every day thanks to the dedication and commitment of our Instructors. Their training has given them the confidence to respond – something we should all take pride in!
Here are a few of the stories EMS Safety Instructors have submitted highlighting their personal experiences. These are just further proof that you don’t have to wear a cape to be someone’s hero.
