Scene Safety: Firefighters Shocked!
A key element of scene safety is the scene size up. The safety of yourself and other rescuers depend on it.
Below is an example of what can happen to even the best of rescuers. Ottawa firefighters were responding to a man down in his front yard. One firefighter was shocked by a scene hazard and went into cardiac arrest! As he fell forward, he came into contact with another firefighter causing him to get shocked, as well. Watch the video to find out what happened next. While it’s difficult to say, this may have been avoidable. Remember, scene safety depends on a quality scene assessment.
