National Preparedness Month
September is National Preparedness Month. What better time to assemble a disaster kit? With the recent 6.0 earthquake in California, and the East Coast bracing for another hurricane, taking part in National Preparedness Month could save your life!
What is National Preparedness Month?
National Preparedness Month is a month set aside to bring attention to, and prepare for potential disasters. FEMA sponsors the program and encourages Americans to create a disaster kit, have a disaster plan and get involved within their community.
We will cover all of these topics in the coming month, so check back regularly. If you’d like to catch up on what we wrote about last year on using social media in a natural disaster, you can do so by clicking here.
National Preparedness Month: Creating a Disaster Kit
A disaster kit is one of the most important ways you can prepare for a disaster. Having food and water for 3 days for each person in your household is a must. But what other items would you include in your disaster kit: sleeping bags? can opener? playing cards? Check out our Disaster Kit Check List. Share what you have in your kit on our Facebook Page! We’ll have the checklist pinned to the top of our page for the month of September.
